George Kunz

George Frederick Kunz (1856-1932) was very well known not only for his discovery of Kunzite and Pink Beryl/Morganite/Pink Emeralds but also was known as a great gem and mineral collector, gemologist, geologist and friend of many of the great gem and mineral museums of the time. It was he who first convinced Morgan to make his now famous gemstone collection donation to the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. He first met J.P. Morgan while Kunz was working at the world renowned jewelry store of Louis Tiffany's and Sons in New York City. The two forged a bond at the time which many future generations of gemstone collectors have been and will continue to be, the direct beneficiaries of this extraordinary public legacy.
